The new Italian Government. How many expectations. Maybe too many...

After years of governments composed of dwarfs, dancers, showgirls, servants and clowns, here is a new italian government composed of serious men and women. Maybe we are no longer used in Italy to see this kind of people above all setting in the highest political and administrative roles showing a rather normal  professional and technical expertise. Too obvious, but too strange in Italy where the wrong people occupy every critical knot in the politica landscape. This new government thus makes we wonder...

The governmental programme itself causes a sort of strange wondering being composed of words and concepts rather unusual in Italy in these recent times: investments in education, legality, law, respect of the rules...

It seems to be suddenly awaken from a dream (for some) or a nightmare (for others): after many days of worrying news from the media, now we are waiting for Mr Monti. "He surely will save us. This new government is the beginning of a new era, a resurrection..."

This new government is now therefore facing a great responsibility because accompanied by great expectations. Maybe too many and too great expectations. We have to see what Mr Monti will concretely do above all in terms of seriousness, reliability and rigour in the effective political action and course. A reconstruction of the idea of "public interest" in a very broad sense and implementation sphere, is, in my opinion, the mayor challenge this government has today to cope with. All the rest will follow consequently.

It is important in the same time to overcome the idea that Mr Monti will do the miracle. This messianic approach, rather shared among the italian public opinion, is worrying me above all when expressed by the politicians. Hey Sirs: where have you been? What have you done?

Unfortunately in Italy very easily people tend to look at the "Man of the Destiny" above all as a tool to hide its own irresponsibility. Italian history, from the barbarian invasions to the Fascism and Mr Berlusconi himself, is characterized by this sad feature: someone else will do it...

This peculiar political phase should represent an opportunity to re-think, outline, design and implement a new vision and a renewed course for the Italian society as a whole. Surely many measures from above will be necessary, but we can do a lot from "below". We cannot wait again for someone else who will make the "dirty job" instead of us. Our recent political history clearly shows how wrong this foolish idea can be...
